Gladiolus

These Gladioli are the fully hardy species type - and not to be confused with the bigger, less hardy ones grown for summer bedding and cut flowers. Gladiolus communis (syn byzantinus) is a vigorous perennial flowering from late spring into early summer time. The bulbs should be planted in small groups 10-15cms deep and 10cms apart, in fertile, well-drained soil, in reasonably sunny conditions, with some added grit if drainage is not good.
